Law & order: UK - The Reviews
The reviews are starting to come in:

Telegraph.com.uk

TV Scoop

Theirry Attard's Double Feature

Guardian.co.uk

The Times

The reviews seem to be mixed. I'm not surprised. The series is trying to balance a fine line of keeping true to it's predecessor while also trying to be British. And if I recall correctly, the original Law & Order was not the best reviewed series the season it debuted.

I'll try to update this post as the day progresses. If you find any additional reviews, please leave a comment and I'll add your link.

Delurking to say there's reviews at The Guardian and The Times.

I can't find anything to link to but in the past week I've seen reviews in the more 'populist' publications such as TV Times and a couple of the tabloids which have tended towards the positve. The Guardian and The Telegraph may hate it but they aren't that good a guide of what will actually pull in punters. I think if it can maintain the 6 million plus ratings it has a reasonable chance of renewal. While Whitechapel pulled in about a million more in the same time slot it wasn't up against Heroes and what it was up against on BBC tanked.

Thanks for delurking. :)

I'm not sure if many or if any pre screeners were sent out for the series. I found it strange that I saw so few early reviews. Then again, maybe it's common for British networks and the press to handle debuts like this. I'm learning quite a lot with the launch of the series.

And I know what you mean about certain reviews and reviewers. There are definitely publications and media sites here in the U.S. I don't give a tremendous amount of credence to. The overnight numbers were good and if the show can retain a high percentage of those first time viewers than it has a good chance for success.

I think it's more a case of a lot of the places I've seen reviews in the past week either don't have websites (TV Times doesn't seem to) or don't have their TV reviews on it, or if they did, yesterday in the 'Today's pick' was the time to look.

The Telegraph complaining it was too left wing was funny though as the Telegraph is the bastion of the right. :)

I only had time to scan the reviews this morning, but I saw the "left wing" comment which made me go, "Huh? What? 'Law & Order' left wing?!?!" That's one of the last terms I'd think of to describe the franchise. ;)

It's also worth remembering that Whitechapel was panned in most of the broadsheet reviews I saw of it and still consistently pulled in over 7 million viewers (somewhat to my surprise on learning today :)).

The response over in the Digital Spy Forum seems to be overwhelmingly positive too.

I think next week will be the week we can tell if the Great British Public liked it or not.

And now I shall stop spamming you with my thoughts on the British review and ratings system. :)

I think L&O is review-proof. Well, it is here, I don't know about over there....

I learned long ago to say pah! to reviewers. *grins*

After all, though it's a different medium, I always remember the fact that only Sheridan Morley and the guy from the Jewish Chronicle had good reviews of Les Miserables when it opened, everyone else panned it and yet here it is nearly a quarter of a century on still playing in the West EWnd *grins*

Yeah, the comment in the DT was odd, as was the Times comment about Jamie adding a little American-style gloss - huh?? What the hell is that supposed to mean!
