'Un jour mon père viendra' Now Playing (In France)

Today's the day, France! Un jour mon père viendra opens in your cinemas and you are officially the envy of Jamie Bamber fans in every other corner of the planet. I hope you are bloody proud of yourselves. ;)

In all seriousness though - don't let our envy turn you away, we still love you!! Please feel free to post your reactions to the film and to Jamie's performance in the comments below. We'd love to hear from you, we're living vicariously through you on this one for... well, for the forseeable future. At least until a DVD release date turns up on Amazon.fr and we all rush to find out what the current conversion rate to euros is...

p.s. - Any articles/reviews that mention him, we'd love to see too! So far the only one that has turned up, that we can tell, is a little anecdote from Olivia Ruiz about how she was nervous for her kissing scene with Jamie because she'd only known him for 24 hours at that point. ;)

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS couldn’t be more happier :-) Finally, we’re going to see Jamie on a big screen, speaking French with an american accent, lol… .I’m going to see the movie on Saturday and i’ll tell you what i think….
About the articles, i’m afraid, it’s only about the 3 others actors and esp Olivia Ruiz, since she’s quite famous in France but as a singer…BUT i do hope we’ll get a small article about Jamie…So far, we only had what zegeekgirl said in her post about the kissing scene...

We'll patiently (or not so much) wait for news from you.

*nod* Which is what I expected, though I'm always hoping to be surprised. ;) (It's also part of the reason why I'm not too optimistic about the film getting a theatrical release here. Olivia, as well as Jugnot and Berleand, are not names here even in a foreign film market sense, so it would be a hard sell to a U.S. distributor unless it came with an enormous fanfare or some kind of festival buzz behind it.)

Well, i'm back from seeing the movie and just let's say that if it wasn't for Jamie, i wouldn't have not see it...the story is good and Francois Berleand and Gerard Jugnot are good in it but Olivia Ruiz...we know it's her first time as an actress...well, you can really see it on screen, she's not that natural...*roll eyes* ,lol
Anyway, about Jamie...when i first saw his name on screen, i was going to scream, lol...Hearing ans seeing speaking french again *blush*...but with this funny american accent, it was a bit weird, lol....Great choice of clothes for him....ans the 2 best scenes was in the swimming pool...i thought i was going to die and in his bedroom, taking of his shirt and staying topless for a little while *faint*...lol...
In my opinion, i thought his performance was really great, he did a great job, showing his emotions, feelings...at some point, he said a few words in English....and i recognise Lee's face when he was sad/disappointed...
In a word, just amazing...
I do hope that when the movie will be out on DVD, we'll have some interview/making-off/outakes...and of course, english subtiles :-)

Thanks for your review. :) I suspected Olivia might not be quite as good as her costars. And it definitely sounds as if Jamie may make some new fans. ;)

my pleasure girls, really :-) such a pleasure to see Jamie on a big screen, that was just weird, lol
I'm just afraid that Jamie might not have good reviews as well for the movie...let's just say that with his weird american accent, it might not help him :-(
But like Asta said, Jamie may make some new fans. ;)

I do find it a little funny that at last Jamie gets offered a role in French, but he has to pretend as though he doesn't speak it as well as he does. Though I suppose it's a step up from Matt being upstaged by Ronnie in the first episode of LOUK ("You speak French? Wish you'd said that earlier, I made a tit of myself..." ;))

Thing is, forcing a crappy accent when your command of the language is better than that and making it sound like authentic... that's not easy, either!

yes, but in a strange way it's explainable. They needed somebody with a good knowledge of the language because otherwise it would have been difficult for them to get along with him on the set. and somebody with a not so good knowledge would have made his own mistakes,
not only the ones from the script. What it's strange for me is that they didn't cast a french actor with a good english.

My French isn't that good anymore, but I can read enough of this to know that the reviewer panned the movie. There was no synergy between the cast and the script. The reviewer was a bit annoyed and laughed little. Ouch!

Thanks for sharing. I'm not terribly surprised. The premise seemed rather contrived, but I was hoping (if not entirely optimistic) they would pull it off. As I mentioned to someone else, I do believe this film can make Jamie some new fans in France, good or bad reviews for the film. And I have to believe it's better than 'Pulse 2'! ;:

. And I have to believe it's better than 'Pulse 2'! ;:

a) that's setting the bar as low as one possibly could.
b) it's probably worth noting that there is zero shirtlessness in Pulse 2, so... there's THAT. ;)

Truthfully, my expectations aren't all that lofty either, and I've seen a few complaint-y French tweets in the past few days. BUT, I've also seen a few "Well, that was wasn't bad/that was sweet" reactions, too. So, who knows.

I think it's also worth pointing out that the tone and style of this movie appears to be directly at odds with your typical French comedy, not to mention most French cinema in general; in a lot of ways, it appears to be going for a frothier Anglo/American style humor that I've been expecting to be a tricky sell in France to begin with. So I'm not entirely surprised to see some of the critical reaction harping on that. (And probably some of the audience reaction, too. To paraphrase Eddie Izzard: I LOVE the French, I really do, but they can be, y'know... fuckin' FRENCH at times. XD)

it would be very hard to be worse than that because that movie was plain strange. at least this one is not supposed to be a horror.
