Oh, this is frakking adorable!

The sound is really pretty bad, but I can tell you that he speaks pretty decent French - well, a combination of a very good French accent with some very English intonations, at moments, and occasional very English pronunciation choices (but sometimes he does sound like a native - and I speak as one of them - which makes sense if he lived there as a kid - he's got the sounds right). The first clip is about the last scene with Eddie - when Lee says goodbye to Adama, and he says it was very emotional because Eddie wasn't just his dad in the show, he was a sort of godfather (although he uses the term stepfather, bless), and is, he says, godfather to his daughters - and had a mentoring kind of role with the younger actors. Eddie would tell the younger actors that he'd watch all their scenes, even the ones he wasn't in, and Jamie says he was impressed that Eddie would come home after 8 or 10 hour days and watch all those scenes. It was a kind of macho challenge - I'm going to be watching ytou, so you better be good,. And he says he won his respect, and it was an extraordinary moment in his (Jamie's) life, when he met Eddie in the street in Vancouver one day, early in the first season, and Eddie hugged him (I think, it's a little fuzzy there) and Jamie realised that they were equals, that Eddie treated him as an equal, and he had been so awed by Eddie at first... (oh, bless!!!)

And he also reiterates how the goodbye scene with Eddie is one of the most precious moments for him.

So cute.

The second clip is obv about how he first came to BSG - and how his first reaciton was my god, why? why would anyone want to redo this frivolous 1970s series? Then he read the script, and the characters and the environment and changed his miond compeltely, and how it was a real world that made sense in thepiost 9 11 world. Then he went and did five auditions, and at gthe end there was only him and another actor, and Katee and Grace. That evening he found out that he had the role, and celebrated with his wife Kerry, then they went back to England, and his life changed. Cue huge applause (I think the Jules Verne crowd loved him speaking French).

Okay - so not the most precise of translations (I have had a loooong-ass day at work, and a couple of glasses of wine, and I need my bed...) but fairly accurate.

Thanks for posting these - I have been wanting to hear Jamie speaking French for quite a while... ;)

the youtube embedded vids have the sound turned to minimum, if that makes a difference... and it's pretty crappy sound (plus Jamie's rather sweet idiosyncratic expressions now and then don't always help).

Thank you! I've been looking forward to hearing Jamie speak French too. Hopefully, we'll have some better quality recordings soon, but those clips were nice teasers.

oooh, thanks for that, hon! I gave these a listen, but couldn't figure anything out (alas, my highschool French is long gone), though I did get that the first one had to do with Eddie - and how cute is his "Katee Sackhoff" in a French accent? ;0P

Anyone know if that was Mary next to him? If so - she seemed to be laughing in all the right places, and I thought I saw that at least half the event was in French - so does that mean we'll be seeing clips of her speaking French, too? :)

That was Mary, though I couldn't tell if she was actually understanding any of it or just being highly amused by him speaking French. *g*

The sound is super low, so I can't hear too well; but roughly, in the first one he talks about how Eddie is like a step-father to him and that when they first met he (Eddie) told the cast that he was going to be watching every scene very closely. In the second one he talks about the audition process, how by the end there was only him, two other actors, and Katee and Grace....and then when he got the role, his life changed completely.

Again, sorry if I can't make a better translation....the sound is just too low.
