Battlestar Galactica

Universal Playback is giving away ten Battlestar Galactica complete box sets signed by Jamie. Or, specifically, the two booklets included in the box set are signed by Jamie. Deadline for entry into the drawing is September 30th and is open only to residents of the UK and Ireland.

padabee posted a scan, provided to her by Lorna, of an interview with Jamie that appears in the October/November 2009 issue of DeathRay magazine. Jamie talks, philosophically, about the Battlestar finale, the series lasting relevance, and the parallels between Colonial civilization's fall and our own crisis brought on, in part, by technology.

If 'Battlestar Galactica' is about anything, it is about the search for meaning in life. In the show we pare the whole of a complex civilization to a bunch of people rattling around inside a small spacecraft, and they are faced with the reality that we are born astride a grave and are left trying to figure out what's the point to it all? It's a realistic message, where you realize that the trappings of life, if looked at closely, are kind of cold - but we nevertheless infuse life with warmth, just because that's what we have to do. That's really what the show was all about, the beauty of human nobility in the starkest of realities.

And while Jamie may not have been at DragonCon, he was mentioned during the panels. During the Monday panel, which included Kandyse McClure, Richard Hatch, and Luciana Carro, the actors were asked if there were any moments, even though the series was very serious, they found humorous. Kandyse struggled for a bit to come up with an answer before she thought of something that was not on the show, but had greatly amused her - Jamie's embarrassment when he dropped the towel. At which point Richard joked about Jamie's attributes and how he had it written into his contract that Jamie was not allowed to take his shirt off in any scenes with him.

Thanks for all the JB goodies. Figures the one D*C panel where Jamie was mentioned was the one I skipped.

I wasn't planning on attending the Monday panel, but one of my roomies kindly offered to check me out and haul my luggage down to the lobby so I could go. Usually, Monday panels are kind of duds and Trucco and Hogan had caught early flights, but there were a few juicy bits of information. I posted in my LJ about what Kandyse had to say about Billy/Dee and what there future was to hold.

And what an appropriate icon you have! ;)

That could have been an option for me, but I needed to get packed up and get out of town so I could arrive home at a decent time as I was driving.

Just a little something I had around. :)

Poor Jamie, lol, I can imagine his embarrassment about the towel's scene...with all these girls around on the set....

With all the towel juggling, I always wondered about mishaps. ;)

Every time I read an interview with Jamie, the literary nerd in me wishes I could raid his laptop to see what else he's written that he just hasn't shown anyone. XD Did he ever actually write that BSG script he was working on or was it just a treatment?

I would LOVE to read any fiction Jamie has written.

He did write the BSG script and I believe the plan was to film it if there had been a fifth season. But once Ron made the decision to wrap the series, he had to concentrate of the various arcs and there was no room for a standalone story in Season 4. :(
