BBCA Discussion Thread: Battlestar Galactica Mini Series Pt 2 & Outcasts Ep 1

Welcome - again! - to the open discussion for the second half of the Battlestar Galactica mini series AND the series premiere of Outcasts.....on the Bamber Broadcasting Corporation. ;) As before, squee is great. Critical analysis encouraged. And mocking is OK, especially if you've seen the BSG episodes as many times as I have. But, as always, be good. :)

Are you tweeting, too?

I am! But I just got sucked into Captain Apollo and Laura's scene. ;)

You mean, you wanted to hear the line: The lesson learned here is not to ask follow-up questions, but simply to say "Thank you, Captain Apollo, for saving our collective asses!"

And following that they should have taken a few minutes to....um, nevermind!

Get squelchy?

one of the best lines ever.

This watching-live-TV thing is difficult; I just pressed the fast-forward button and received the 'LIVE' status message.

Shouldn't they try to save the kids?
asta77 From: asta77 Date: June 18th, 2011 11:49 pm (UTC) (Link Me)
Not really enough time. It was a matter of minutes. And they don't have those handy dandy 'Star Trek' transporters. ;)

I know.

*** SPOILER *** (Do I need to do that?)

Plus, it sets up an upcoming scene/line from Laura beautifully... sigh

Adama: You would rather that we run?
Roslin: Yes! Absolutely! That is the only sane thing to do here - exactly that, run. We leave this solar system and never look back.
Adama: You can run if you'd like. This ship will stand and it will fight.
Roslin: I'm going to be straight with you here. The human race is about to be wiped out. We have fifty thousand people left and that's it. Now, if we are even going to survive as a species, then we need to get the hell out of here and we need to start having babies!
zarniwhooper From: zarniwhooper Date: June 19th, 2011 12:47 am (UTC) (Link Me)
and
Adama: [sees Billy flirting with Dualla] They'd better start having babies.
Saul Tigh: Is that an order?
Adama: It may be before too long.

There's actually some interesting stuff with the baby making.

Btw, did I ever mention to you Helo was supposed to die in the mini series? The last time you saw him on Caprica, waving to Boomer, was supposed to be his final scene. Tahmoh impressed Ron so much after watching a cut of the mini, he decided to bring Helo back for the series.

Random first impressions of Outcast:

1. Could this be viewed as an indirect sequel to BSG (you know, 'cause Jamie's in both) ;)? Humanity and Earth...from space and back outwards again....sorry, it's the allergy meds.

2. Carpathia? Really? Any inspiration from a certain rescue vessel of some historical note (Titanic history)? It just seems like such a non-random choice of name for a ship...

1) Hey, this has all happened before and will happen again. ;)

2) I read something, in regards to the series, about the use of "Carpathia" and it's ties to the Titanic. Although, I'm not recalling if the writer stated it was intentional or people questioned whether it was intentional.

1) an AU sequel because Lee and Mitchell are too different, but i guess that your meds and my lack of coffee are sort of in sync 'cause i get what you're saying

2)For me not the Titanic was the problem. I was sort of scared that they're going to play with the vampire angle
leiamoody From: leiamoody Date: June 19th, 2011 09:15 am (UTC) (Link Me)
Well, it's not a literal sequel, of course. Perhaps more like "spiritual successor"?

In a literal sense, Lee and Mitchell would be different. 150,000+ years can make anyone different. ;)

His expression in that first pic is hilarious. "Can we get this photoshoot over with? My scowl is getting worn out."

Mitchell, you will be very, VERY missed. :(
anamarya From: anamarya Date: June 19th, 2011 05:58 am (UTC) (Link Me)
second that. i don't want to be spoilerly but the show was not the same without him in it and not only because of Jaime's awesomeness.

Yeah, that was quick. :(
