'Law & Order: UK' Series 5 Finale and Upcoming Q&A
I had intended to post Law & Order: UK news yesterday, but got a little distracted by the CSI: Miami announcement. I think it's understandable. ;)

The lovely, talented and very accommodating Emilia di Girolamo has agreed to do another Q&A. Because she is busy putting the finishing touches on Series 6, as well as working on new projects, I can't provide a definitive date for when the Q&A might be posted, but I am able to send along questions any time. Since Series 5 will be wrapping up this Sunday has wrapped and there won't be any new episodes until September (on BBC America), I figure this is as good a time as any to open the floor - or comm - to questions. I'm going to keep this post open for questions until Tuesday Friday, so don't feel you have to rush to come up with something. :) And due to possible length and/or potential spoilage, I may opt to post part of the Q&A later in the season.

And over the past couple days I've been told by several people that some UK publications, particularly Radio Times, have published extremely spoilery reviews of 'Deal'. For those who don't wish to know about every twist and turn in the episode, you might want to play it safe and skip reading any reviews you come across.

Yep, Radio Times let the cat out of the bag and also What's on TV complete with picture. Avoid if you don't want to know what happens.
As far as questions for Emilia go, I'd like to ask about Matt's childhood. There has been various hints over the series about his Dad physically abusing him, so what's her take on it and how it shaped who Matt has become.

Any links for those of us who kind of * want * to be spoiled? :)

I think Matt will be killed in the early 7 series...

See promo video BBC America to the start of the season. Also read the annotation for episodes 6 and 7 - is a single story!
Wikipedia updated information: Bamber-Devlin 6 season is NOT involved!

Sorry, if written correctly. (I am from Russia.)

Questions for Emilia:
(1) Did they or didn't they? Can we have an answer on that last scene in Skeletons? What happened with those two?

(2) What are the chances of a female DS to replace our Devlin?

(3) Are they ever going to say where George is?

(4) I know that the Mothership episodes control, but will we be able to see some flashback to Natalie as a WPC? I think I remember that with Lt. Van Buren.

(5) Why the slow burn on Henry? Is he going to be like Arthur Branch or what?

That's all I've got. And I second the comment on Matt's childhood (even though it's too late to develop on screen, the backstory would still be interesting).

Okay let's see:
I'd like to know how Emilia got into the business (I think I read somewhere, she got a PhD in something before).
Secondly I read she worked with convicts before, I wonder if that influenced her writing of the characters (the perpetrators especially). I noticed that they are a bit more sympathetic and less black and white than in some of the American incarnations. Although I only really know Criminal Intent and SVU.
Finally I'd like to know how closely the writers work with the actors and if there is some kind of back and forth.
I don't know if Emilia has answered any of these questions before, I'm sorry if I'm repeating something.

BTW I have left a few anonymous comments now and again and finally decided to get an LJ. So hello, I guess, and thanks for keeping up the comm!

WARNING... SPOILERS FOR THE FINAL EPISODE OF SERIES 5 (if anyone doesn't want to be spoiled...

- I'll go ahead and post The Big'Un™: Can you elaborate on the decision to kill Matt Devlin off rather than suspend/transfer/etc. him out of the series? We know some details of Jamie's departure from the show, notably the fact that he was shooting 17th Precinct before LOUK had wrapped the series. Of course, understood that you might not be at liberty to reveal all the behind the scenes details. (Also, Jamie's not here to give his input, obviously.) But I'm sure most folks' #1 question is: Why was death deemed to be the best option?

- The episode that you based "Deal" on, "Slave", plays out differently. Can you talk a little about the process through which the adaptation became the episode we saw? Was "Slave" chosen before or after the decision was made to craft a story that writes Matt out of the show? Or was it chosen first, because you wanted to write about the issues in the case at hand, and determined later that it would be something that could be combined with Matt's exit?

- I don't expect you to give us any real spoilers about forthcoming episodes, particularly as this was intended as one half of a two-episode arc. Would it be safe to say, however, that the ramifications of Matt's death will affect the characters for some time, perhaps extending past the next episode? (I'm thinking of Ronnie in particular, who as we know is not only close to Matt but, as mentioned way back in "Samaritan," already lost one partner to a violent death.)

Thanks as always for agreeing to do this, Emilia. Particularly in a case like this where I'm sure you understand it's tough for us to be as objective as we'd like. ;)

My question:

Can you tell us where "Survivor's Guilt" picks up in relation to "Deal"? (i.e. same scene, later that day, next day, next week...)
