Disturbing the waters is kind of what I had in mind, only a little more complicated. ;) It all started with Episode 6 and the Juliet Aubrey character who returned from an expedition and started acting weird around her kids and then violent. And then they discovered it wasnt really her but some kind of alien entity that manifested and came back in her place. The real her was still alive, injured up on the mountain, and eventually they found her.

So that got me to thinking... actually first it got me thinking "this is basically Solaris now, that's not terribly original, but we can work with it." XD But more importantly it got me thinking about Mitchell... what if the man we met in the first ep was also some kind of physical manifestation cooked up by the planet. What if he had been for months and no one knew? Granted, he was shot and buried but maybe the longer this thing manifests the more real it becomes? Starts having complex thoughts and making plans. If so, where did the idea to splinter, or to spare the alphas or whatever they were, come from? Mitchell's id, the thoughts and ideas he had but could never act on? And ig Jamie hadnt come back, this would still be interesting, but if he could have then we could have had two scenarios: one, the real Mitchell really has been dead out in the wilderness for months but another manifestation shows up, starts raising hell and gives this show what it really needed: An actualfax scary villain. ;) OR... if they had Aubrey's character reveal that she's been the last to see Mitchell, perhaps they could have found him like they found her... half crazy, barely alive considering how long he'd been missing. But worth saving, because maybe he knows more about the planet's weird collective consciousness than anyone. So Forthaven has a vested interest in saving him and getting this broken shell of a man to remember who he was and how he can help them. If for no one else, at least for his little boy. Aww.

Yeah, I like my show better. Both of em. ;)

well i had some thoughts on the subject of Mitchell coming back but your version is better and definitely more.... developed, clear, etc.

and yes, i also like your show better :)

Aw, no really, as long as we're having a cathartic "Outcasts could have been so much better" thread, share your version! :)

sorry for the delay. almost forgot to reply and that's a bad thing.

actually it was not a cathartic think, more like a passing thought about the fact that people kept saying how this thing called Outcasts was so... alike (?) BSG and then with the fact that we didn't knew a lot (practically anything) about the AC's I had a moment where i sort of considered that they might be clones. maybe a special kind of clones that were created using some special stuff from Carpathia or something like that.
but then before any of this got anywhere my head started to hurt and the plot was sort of disengaging and i ended up watching all the episodes because i don't like to let things in the middle.

Ah. Yeah, I think it's pretty safe to assume that the ACs (being, as far as I can tell from what we got, genetically engineered but not actually cloned) were not intended at all to be the same thing as Juliet Aubrey's character being "cloned" (in parenthesis because we got no explanation for what was actually going on). Who knows, maybe the two would be revealed to be connected in some way in the second series, but I doubt it. One was man's scientific folly, the other some unknown element of Carpathia that we would probably have learned more about. In a very slow and roundabout way, if the first series was anything to go by. XD (I would note, tho, that I bet the planet's shenanigans with Aubrey was similar, if not the same, as the fact that Tate kept seeing his dead children. That's uncannily like the Solaris comparison I made earlier.)

BTW, I should point out that I actually don't think it was the writers' intent at all for Mitchell to have been "cloned" in the same way Aubrey's character was; I was hoping maybe that was the case, but I bet it wasn't. Still... would have been a REALLY DAMN GOOD IDEA. ;)

it would have been a good idea, but yes, i'm pretty sure that it wasn't their intention.

is there going to be a second series? i was under the impression that it wasn't the case. i think i saw a sort of/semi-official announcement somewhere about the fact that what we saw it's all that we're ever going to get. so, no answers, just theories.

Nope, no second series. The BBC announced no renewal pretty much five minutes after the finale aired. XD I was speculating on where the writers might have taken the plot had they been able to continue. (Provided they had an outlook planned out that far ahead; given what we got, I'm really not so sure! It was such a mish-mosh of potentially interesting ideas and concepts but they were so hell-bent on holding back ideas that there must have been SOMETHING on the back-burner they were planning to reveal later about the planet manifesting things like dead loved ones and alternate personalities and diamonds that no one really needs because there's no damn currency on this back-water burg of a planet. Oy.)
