Law & Order: UK, "Survivor's Guilt" Preview Clip
BBC America has posted a preview clip for 'Survivor's Guilt', airing Wednesday, September 28th. Given how 'Deal' ended, it's hard for any clip from the episode to not be spoilery, so, yes, be warned the clip contains spoilers. I'll also put a spoiler warning on comments, just in case.

Also, the clip, apparently, is not viewable outside the U.S. If/when I find it uploaded to YouTube, I'll post a link.

ETA: I posted a recap of the clip in comments, since someone asked and I still can't find anything on YouTube.

The clip is a minute, forty-two seconds. It takes place outside the Old Bailey, where the shooting occurred, but it's now night. Ronnie is standing, alone, staring at the ground. Joy tells him she has to take this (a bloody jacket, I believe) for processing, then turns to Natalie to give her a rundown of the facts. Five bullets fired - two went into a wall, DS Matt Devlin took two bullets to the chest, and another officer took one in the arm. Natalie tells Ronnie that they need to get him out of there. Ronnie starts speculating on who ordered the hit and that it was on the boy. Natalie tells him he needs to go to the station to make his statement, get processed, then go home and take some time off. Sam Casey will be heading the investigation. Ronnie says, since he was there, he should lead the investigation, but Natalie says he's personally involved and the best thing he can do is just give his statement. The clip ends with Ronnie standing alone, camera on his back, as it pulls away and fades out.

Asta77, thank you!
If it was late at night ... Matt probably did not die immediately, but in the hospital ... so Ronnie and Natalie returned to the scene so late?

It's hard to tell exactly. But given Ronnie's state, I'm inclined to think he never left the scene and Natalie met him/the crime scene investigators there.

I have backtracked in my grief stages. I am back at anger and denial. I can't watch and I hate everyone (shaking head). So, I'm going to wallow in fan fiction for a while.

Fanfic can indeed be a comforting woobie in times of fandom!grief. *holds your hand*

This was sent to me today in an effort to cheer me up. I've seen it before but it was nice to see it again.

LOL, I love that Onion article.

And of course, Troy has become a fallback GIF for me in times of fandom stress:

LATELY I HAVE MANY EMOTIONS.

This comment is awesome. I wholeheartedly agree, however. We don't get to see him enough, and LOUK was something to cling to. If I start BSG again, my family will think I'm insane.

LET THEM. BSG is that good. It's worth it. ;)

Also: MOUNTAINS. Lee is alive at the end. This is increasingly a cause for celebration at every opportunity.

Hey, it could still be the case that Matt is fine and the other officer dies from septicemia to his arm wound! Happens all the time on the NHS!

Out of interest has it been renewed for a 4th lot of episodes? Anyone know?
asta77 From: asta77 Date: September 22nd, 2011 05:40 pm (UTC) (Link Me)
Hee!

Nope, no word yet from ITV on another series order. However, I think A LOT of contracts were up after Series 5 and 6 were filmed so, if they did order another 13 episodes, the cast could change again.

Wonder if they're waiting to see how the Bamber less episodes do. I know we're biased but I always got the impression from the media here Brooks and Devlin was considered by far the best past of the show by most people.
asta77 From: asta77 Date: September 22nd, 2011 07:34 pm (UTC) (Link Me)
While we are certainly biased ;), when I read about the show it's Jamie and Brad and the Matt/Ronnie relationship that seems to receive the majority of the focus. Not that losing Jamie wouldn't hurt, but I think the loss of the Matt/Ronnie partnership would have the greater impact. I haven't done a screen time analysis, but it seemed like we had more of the Coppers in Series 5.

the Matt/Ronnie relationship

I really think they're the emotional heart of the show. I've been working on re-watching the original eps that these are based on and it feels SO different. Bad Faith (that Confession is based on) was just so flat because Briscoe and Logan don't have half the relationship that Ronnie and Matt do. Logan didn't even TELL Briscoe that the priest was an abuser for a long time.

It really all comes down to the kind of chemistry Ronnie and Sam have. Which is why I'm DYING to find out who is playing Sam. I'm guessing publicizing the new character is a bit of a spoiler and that's why they haven't done it? Because otherwise they really should be getting as much press on the new regular as possible.

Yeah I don't envy the task of the guy coming in, and in a lot of ways I think the writers have made a rod for their own back by killing Matt instead of just having him leave, it makes the audience more likely to resent the new guy as humans are irrational creatures, especially about religion, politics and TV.

Although perhaps I speak to soon and he'll be Jimmy Smitts to Jamie's David Caruso. :P

Jamie's David Caruso

ouch... i know it was a metaphor but still

Lets hope he doesn't spend his csi ep taking of his sunglasses before every dramatic exposition moment!

You may have a point re: killing off a character vs. writing them out. Of course, I'd also argue this is just one of many factors exacerbating this particular situation. (See also: a) the theory I mentioned before that the short nature of British telly seasons amplifies the tendencies for fandom-prone audience members to cling to characters, particularly in a procedural, in a way they might not otherwise; b) the particularly wonderful chemistry that Jamie and Brad had together, c) Bambi's shitty batting average for survival. ;) )

I've read discussion of the show on other boards that are not Bamber focused and I'd have to agree. Have also read more than one longtime L&O franchise watcher discussing how Matt & Ronnie are their favorite cop team of all.
