I was hoping too hard that they'd cast a minority actor or even a female, which would be a franchise first as they've never had a junior female detective.

Agreed, although, Nina Cassidy was a female junior detective, I don't remember how many episodes though.

I was thinking the same thing. I was hoping for someone like David Ajala or young Indian actor like a Dev Patel (they could pick an unknown and really do something creative!). In terms of a female DS, I would even take Michelle Ryan just to make it a clean break.

Maybe they are going the Spooks/Mi-5 route and casting only young handsome actors to replace the young handsome actors that leave the show.

Going to a much needed happy hour now. :-)

Jealous. My happy hour is still 3 hours away!

Hey, I have no problem with the young and handsome part. ;) Just, y'know, variety is the spice of life. (We were wondering what Naoko Mori had been up to since poor Tosh got killed off on Torchwood. Wouldn't that be something, an Asian woman detective. And she kicks ASS.)

EDIT: You're right about Nina. Haven't actually seen too many of her eps, either. The mothership is so ginormous it's easy to get Swiss-cheese brain.
