Jamie Bamber Added to Dragon*Con Guest List
Jamie has been added to the list of scheduled guests at this year's Dragon*Con, August 31st through September 3rd in Atlanta, Georgia. I cannot stress enough that August is a loooong way off and, of Jamie's four previously scheduled appearances, he had to cancel three times due to filming commitments. Granted, his prior filming commitments were in the UK and Vancouver, which made commuting to Atlanta for the weekend difficult. But if he lands a series for the 2012-2013 season, as we all hope he does, and it's LA, then maybe we'll get lucky this year.

OK, enough with disclaimers and being the voice of reason. Go forth and squee for a bit! :)

Probably unwise for me to squee just yet. As of now, there's a chance I'll be at Dragon*Con anyway for work... but that's just it, it's work. I might be stuck at our booth the whole time and won't be able to to catch any panels he's on, but I won't even know for sure if I'm going for several months yet. And if I wanted to try and go on my own, I doubt I could afford the plane ticket right now. (All east coast cons are a drag for me for this very reason...)

Le sigh. We'll see.

There is no gif frantic and spastic enough to express my joy.

Later, there will be no gif horrible and depressing enough to express my crushing disappointment.

For now I'll live in my calm little bubble of hope and pretend I AM NOT COMPLETELY FREAKING OUT.

Can I say how excited I am for all of you if this comes true?

I'm really-really happy especially for those of you who are going to D*C anyway.

For me, right now I can only hope that he keeps his promise and he will be in Italy next autumn.

This would be awesome and a great opportunity to go and visit Atlanta! Who of you is coming? (I know, Jamie might cancel but hey there's a lot of other cool stuff going on at D*C right?)

Well, I go every year. I think this year will be my eighth D*C. Yeah, there is certainly plenty to see and be involved with at D*C. ;) I actually highly recommend no one plan to go just to see Jamie (or any one scheduled attendee) because those are the folks that will be hit hardest by cancellations and every year some big names have to cancel due filming commitments.

IF the stars align and he does make it, what kind of meet and greet opportunities are there at these events?

The con has grown considerably between my first year there and the last few years. It used to be you could get a hotel room at a host hotel in the spring and now they are sold out within days of being available for reservations. And it was easy to hang out in the Marriott lobby and find people and talk. Now it's shoulder to shoulder at night.

However! I stayed at the Sheraton for the first time last year and HUGE difference from the Marriott. I could definitely envision a meet up happening there where you can hear the person you are talking to. ;) And, should Jamie make it this year, I'd be happy to open up a discussion post where people could arrange smaller meet ups and I could see about organizing a larger get together. Of course, with people wanting to attend panels and other events, it's always tricky to herd a large group of people.

You'll also find yourself talking to whoever you are standing next to in line as you wait to get into a panel. :)
