Jamie Bamber Phoenix ComicCon Panel
First of all, a HUGE thank you to @naiwang1 for his posting Jamie's full panel online and his superb recording of the Q&A. The video and audio is awesome. It's quite honestly the next best thing to actually being there.

I also must give a cheer within a cheer to Mr. Colin Ferguson, @colinferg. If not for his tweeting a link to @naiwang1 recording of the Eureka panel, I would not have so quickly found Jamie's panel online.

What a panel it is! One of the best Q&A'a with Jamie I have seen. I can see why people were raving about it on Twitter. Some of the highlights:

  • An adorable story about his eldest daughter Isla. (ETA: After watching the first part of the video, Kerry had this to say on Twitter: "That is a cute story but I take umbrage as that is my story and he changed "mummy" to "daddy'...he's such an attention seeker!." LOL! :D

  • His EJO impression as well as a story involving Eddie and a banana. ;)

  • Being asked about Law & Order: UK (YAY!) as well as Outcasts and Monday Mornings.

  • Admitting "Black Market" was not one of the best episodes of BSG while, again, sharing his love of the finale (personal YAY! ;).

  • Finding out he was a huge contributor to one of the best damn Lee Adama scenes ever.

  • And there is a bit about his new jeans I'm sure we'll all appreciate. ;)

Now see for yourself.....

Being that it's the first day back at work from a holiday weekend and I've just discovered I didn't receive a ton of emails during our transition to a new system over the break (oh JOY ) I'm not going to get a chance to watch this until tonight. Actualfax comments later but I had to chuck in a round of applause right the hell now. THANK YOU, NAI! What a star. (And thanks by extension to Colin, although that one's less of a surprise. Sheriff Carter saves the day. It's what he does. ;) )

'kay, watched. Completely agree on the points you highlighted, asta77, with a couple of additions:

- For some reason the face he pulled during the Eddie/banana story that was actually the lecherous guy in the corporate harassment video completely reminded me of the goofiest of goofy George Carlin faces from back in his heyday. We don't get to see that Jamie nearly enough. PLEASE a daffy clown more, Bambi. ;)

- On the flip side of the extrovert/introvert coin, the part where he specifically calls out the reasons why he's not on social media is great because he points out very specifically that he's just a particularly private person and clearly isn't entirely comfortable with it. Again, something we kinda speculated and Kerry indicated at on Twitter, but it's nice to hear it from him directly. And I respect that.

- The bit where he speaks at length about not thinking about portraying a convincing hero but rather a convincing human being is not only a great quote, but kind of a self-contained acting lesson in about a 2-3 minute span. Or writing lesson, for that matter; you can't make a hero work on the page if they're not a fully realized human being. Loved that.

- At the 53 minute mark where he snuck in a dig at Arizona's immigration law, I literally applauded. Don't. EVER. Change. Bamber. ;)

I realized upon second viewing I missed about fifteen minutes of Part 1 of the video earlier today. I thought the video ended rather abruptly, but was at work, got busy and never got a chance to verify. I figured I'd be giving it another look when I got home. :) And the HD is awesome!

OK, one of the awesome things I missed was Jamie being asked about BBCA's Bamber Broadcasting Corporation commercial and his enthusiastic response to it. I wondered at the time how he reacted to it. There was also an added element of glee to the story since his friend and publicist may have been informed about the commercial by, oh, me. ;)

I was also amused that, when traveling to LA to look for work, he was going to stay with Eddie rather than in his own home. It makes me wonder who he was renting to at the time. I know Grace and Tahmoh had stayed in his home when he first moved back to the UK.

I wasn't going to say anything about the Bamber Broadcasting Co. bit because I had the exact same thought. And I figured given the circumstances it was up to you to say something about that at first. *giggle*

OH MY GOD. THE BANANA FACE.

More terrific PHXCC photos from Kevin Cullen (Nice work, man!!)

(Also, this one made me tilt my head like a puppy and make a derpy face myself. I regret nothing):

Re: Thanks for sharing

It was my pleasure! I'm glad that I stuck around for his panel even though 2/3 vacated the room after TNG panel finished. I was wondering why everyone left! Geez!
I'm glad the quality stayed on YouTube. I finally watched it today and it was better than being there. Yeah for HD!

Re: Thanks for sharing

OMG, the HD was AMAZING. I finally got a chance to experience it when I rewatched on my home computer. Again, a big thank you for recording the Q&A AND in HD. :)

Re: Thanks for sharing

Sat down & watched it now, so I can properly weigh in! It's a FANTASTIC panel and so rarely have we gotten full-length videos (i.e. not just clips) of any of Jamie's con panels, let alone one where it was just him fielding questions for over an hour. You made a lot of fans who couldn't make it on short notice to this con very happy. (This one included. ;) ) Thanks, man!

Re: Thanks for sharing

Yeah, I know it's hard to wade through the mass of clips online and find any of quality. Because of HD, it's almost better than being there, or at least getting that close and personal! LOL. The only thing that upset me was the last 10 minutes. I thought I had enough data to record the whole session and ran out close to the end. I had to quickly delete something to make room for the final 10, otherwise it would have been one continuous take.

Enjoy and thanks for your gratitude, it makes my day!

Right so, thank you Nai Wang for this and thank you mods for posting.

Jamie just seems like just . . . the nicest person. Love him! Ah! It was so nice to hear his natural voice again. My favorite bit is probably the story about the BBC. I wish someone had asked him about 17th Precinct. Next Con maybe.

I wish someone had asked him about 17th Precinct.

Right now, my plan is go go to Dragon*Con; I'm justifying the expense because I can use the opportunity to network for work (we have been trying to get a slot there as exhibitors, but it's one of the cons we're passing on this year unfortunately.) Anyway, the point is that if he doesn't cancel (knock wood furiously), going out there to hang with asta77 and pals and maybe get to pick Jamie's brain on a few things is the secondary justification I need to make it work this year. And 17th Precinct, at least at the moment, is the number one subject on my Q&A list. ;)

I enjoyed the story of his former classmate, and BSG fan, that wondered what ever happened to Jamie St. John Bamber Griffith. He googled him to discover he watched BSG and never knew it was the same Jamie.

I'm really floored the friend didn't put the two together. Granted, Jamie does look different then his college years, but not *that* different, imho. And how weird was it he was going to be a the con that weekend? Small world!

It kinda bothers me when everyone acts like EJO and JB are such a stretch as father/son. Considering that Lee's mom was blonde, I think Jamie's coloring perfectly reasonable. It's just a personal pet peeve since my siblings and I are 3/4 Mexican and don't necessarily look like what some expect.

He mentioned Monday Mornings in the winter. Is that official or just a possibility/unconfirmed at this point? Also, I love the person who whoo'd in the audience when he said "long hair and a shaggy beard."

JB and BW did a great job with Ronnie & Matt. Their banter and annoyance/love for each other were a huge part of what made that show so enjoyable. Also what made Matt's leaving so painful. I could really do with Season 3 on DVD in the US.

The way his mouth dropped open a little when the guy said 50 Shades of Gray was classic.

He seems a little insulted that Dee blew her brains out right after the lovely date/kiss. LOL

Kerry mentioned on Twitter that there was talk of TNT moving up the premiere to the winter which would mean January/February. I think it depends on when shooting begins and if they have a spot open on their schedule in the winter. They still have some pilots they need to make decisions on. I would say treat the news as possible at this point.

I think Dee was just the culmination of Lee's bad luck with women on the show. ;)

It's just a personal pet peeve since my siblings and I are 3/4 Mexican and don't necessarily look like what some expect.

I am also half-Mexican on my father's side and am extremely fair, though I do have dark hair and eyes. My grandmother had green eyes, and fair freckled skin like mine; her grandparents were born in Spain. Meanwhile my dad's half-siblings look very different from he and his sisters are because their father has more native Mexican ancestry. So I hear you on that one. I "get" why that's a perception out there for a lot of people, even if I know it's not the truth. Mexico is almost as much a melting pot as America, in some regions. ;)

Re: Ronnie and Matt: YES. I love that he played up his working relationship with Brad being his favorite part of that show because I absolutely believe that their getting along so well and what they made of that relationship is precisely why the resolution of Jamie's LOUK arc was as painful as it was. I didn't see that coming when the show first started, I don't think anyone did. But they made it sing.
