I have a multi-region player and ordered the French edition. I was very excited to get an email from Amazon FR telling me it had shipped today. Am just praying there are subtitles as my French is pretty weak. Oh well, I can always look at the pretty and wonder wtf is happening on screen, I suppose. XD

There were English subtitles previously confirmed on both the Region 1 and Region 2 releases, so we should be OK on that! Although I'm hearing now that the bonus featurettes which were announced by Gaumont on their press site are actually NOT on the Region 2 DVD after all. Which would really suck if those were cancelled, but I don't think that would affect the subtitles at all.

It's been a bad week so I had a brain fart about the subtitles. But glad to hear it again anyway! Bummer about the bonus featurettes since that was one of the reasons I ordered the French version over the Canadian one. Although I just did a price comparison between the two sites and the R2 one was 19.25 Euros (including shipping) which is about $24 US and the R1 version was $31 (with shipping). I'm just happy it wasn't the other way around. :)

I can't wait to see the film - -the screencaps/promo pictures look delicious. Even if the film was all in French with no subtitles, I'd be happy just to sit and watch Jamie and listen to him wax poetic en Francais. (He spoke a few lines of French and a few lines of Italian when I saw him at Shoreleave 6 yrs ago and it was swoon-inducing)

Ha! I had an inkling the French DVD might actually end up being cheaper! Makes sense though; it's value priced over there because it was a major theatrical release, no doubt. Over here, or rather in Canada it's more of a specialty title hence it's just more expensive.

I have a region-free player, too, and nearly went for the R2 as well. Chose the Canadian one in the end because I can play it on my Blu-Ray player, which even though it's not a Blu-Ray disc will look as nice as possible on the HDMI connection ;)

I'm not surprised at the price difference. It's why I buy R2 copies of UK series a lot of the time -- the difference in cost is sometimes staggering. Like $23 vs. $75. Same reason too -- "speciality" titles so they charge a premium in the US.

If I had a blu-ray player, I'd probably have gotten the Canadian edition, but I don't have an HD tv or a BD player so right now, investing in blu-ray disks is kind of a waste of money. I am looking forward to seeing the film in any version.

TRUTH! Looking forward to discussion once enough people have received their DVDs. ;)
