Dammit, looks like I am going to have to wait until tomorrow to properly comment because I need to rewatch before I do, and that's not gonna happen tonight. Bah!

I will throw this out there for discussion though - Tonight was SUCH a 180 for Ty/Tina, and I have some issues with that though overall I really rather loved this episode. asta77 have discussed this and we don't quite see eye to eye on all points; basically, I feel that the way the relationship has been scripted up until now is the issue, I think Jamie & Jen are giving it 110%. I would not be surprised if in their heads as they are going into any scene, they know the whole genesis of the Ty/Tina relationship; we just haven't really been privy to it as viewers yet. And conceptually anyway, for me, a slow burn is fine but again I feel like we just went from 0 to 60. And what's bugging me the most is that if they had made ONE adjustment to the pilot, one tiny scene that would have given them a moment of tenderness, I feel like it would have helped so much to establish them as a couple! (I know just how I would have written it and where it goes in the pilot, too. Sound of teeth gnashing. ;) )

More later after I have given it a second look see...

Okay, further thoughts...

The flow of the episode is what I really loved; the fact that Sydney's plotline with the baby was tied in with Ty/Tina from the very start (on the phone) and then once the Afghanistan save was over, all three came together on the baby's surgery. The whole thing came together quite satisfyingly, so that it really felt like a proper A-plot, while Park/Gato was the B-plot. For the first time, I didn't feel like the show was jumping through hoops to resolve too many plotlines in one hour at the expense of character development. And that was a GREAT feeling.

It only occurred to me on second watch: Corpsman Gold in this? Is basically Ishay in Kerry's first appearance in BSG. Today you're a DOCTOR, dude. Awwww. Mah heart. <3

First slo-mo in some time that didn't make me think "not strictly necessary" because, let's be honest, surgeons-as-gunslingers bad-assing into the OR was kind of fabulous. (I told myself I wouldn't engage in too much self-indulgent Twitter squee because, why... but I may have tweeted a Sergio Leone reference at Jamie, Jen and Sarayu, which Jamie bounced back with "Spaghetti Surgical??" And then the frustrated film school nerd in me DIED. ;) Died so hard. I am actually dead now.)

Park/Gato was so, so hard to watch at times, but also one of the better plotlines of the season so far. Keong continues to be tremendous. The actress who played Carol was OUTSTANDING, really engaging, alternately tough and heartbreaking. Also really appreciated that they did a callback to last week in Gato's moment with Carol.

Torn in two directions on my "must be in every episode" requests from last week - YAY for more Valerie Mahaffey! (Between her on this and me watching West Wing episodes with Adam Arkin recently, MAN I need to see Northern Exposure again soon!) But booooo to not having the bar coda at the end. I really really wanted to see them ALL at the bar after the lovely end of the 311 scene celebrating, with a damn montage of everyone buying Ty a round all night long. Hee. Though admittedly, the last scene was sweet. If a bit cryptic as everyone has pointed out for where exactly they're going to go with Ty's reaction to Tina's joyous baby-cradling. (You can absolutely interpret that multiple ways, and for once I think that is a GOOD thing and not a case of the show being too obtuse or witholding on the character beats. Big ups to Himself for delivering in that tiny moment, too.)

Big question I forgot to ask someone last night though - what was Bill Irwin working on when this was shot that they had to write out Buck as being on leave?! Heh. Curious now.

Even though we had three cases again this week, I agree, the writers did a much better job of tying them together and I felt all got adequate time. It may have helped that the baby storyline didn't create any moral or legal issues to be explored. Her development have been severely inhibited before she eventually died. There really wasn't much to think about or discuss.

Keong has been quite the discovery. Park could have easily been a stereotype, but he's given the character such depth. I'm also feeling that Park's 'broken English' is less broken and more an extension of a man, even in his native language, who would use few words. My one disappointment is that we weren't able to see him reason with the sister and make her come around. I feel he's capable of it. And we could use a change from Gato coming in to save the day each week.

Also, could Sydney go out just once and not find a patient??? ;)

Without question, we needed to see Ty and Tina in a more intimate, though not necessarily physical, way previously. We spent weeks trying to figure out if ANYTHING was going on between them and then I assumed they MAYBE had a fling. But now it looks like they have been having an affair for awhile. I think. It could have started after her marriage ended. GRRRR. I don't need everything spelled out, but the vagueness here is ridiculous! Also, sexy shower scene should be sexy and it's not when it comes out of nowhere like that. It was the first time we saw them kiss!

And we could use a change from Gato coming in to save the day each week.

That was my feeling initially, too. It's only the callback I mentioned before that changed my mind, because I feel like the show could really stand to do more callback-ing and enriching the season-long character arcs in that way.

It was the first time we saw them kiss!

Did I mention the scene I would have written into the pilot? It would have involved a kiss. ;) And not much more, but IT'S IMPORTANT, PEOPLE.

(Frankly, I wouldn't go so far as to call the shower scene unsexy, because DAYUM... but it definitely lost a lot of its potential impact because of how quickly they accelerated Ty/Tina's level of affection after withholding SO much for so long.)
