Jamie Has Had to Cancel his Appearances at Gen Con and Hub Productions
I'm sorry to be the barer of bad news to the fans in Australia. Production on Battlestar Galactica, which was to be completed on June 28th, has now been extended to at least July 10th. Jamie did everything in his power to be released from production, but the production office has notified him it's not possible.

Here's a portion of the email I just received from his convention agent:

Jamie has been trying to get to Australia for a couple of years now. He was so looking forward to finally getting there and hopes the fans understand how hard everyone worked to make it happen, and have it in their hearts to forgive him and the promoters, but it just wasn’t meant to be.

I know how disappointing this is to some of you, but I expressed that given how hard he's worked in the past to make con appearances, we know this was something out of his power to make work.

I didn't receive word on James Callis, who is also scheduled to appear at these events, but there is a good chance he is also unable to attend.

Whilst it is obviously a huge letdown for fans in Australia, the up shot of this?? Lee must still be alive going in to the last episode or so, so at least he makes it that far!! (not that the fact he's still around is a surprise or anything to me as other things I'd read made it clear Jamie was still working away in Vancouver and so Lee hadn't bought it...yet!)

Hmmm, I never thought about putting a spoiler warning on a convention post. ;)

I must point out that Jamie and James are both directing webisodes for BSG and James, in a recent online post, mentioned their directing duties were to begin next month. However, I've always suspected that Lee (and Baltar) would make it to the final episode...though they could die in that episode. :/

Sorry about the Australia fans, and anyone who planned to attend Gen Con.

However, I had to smile when I read the previous post by hockeyvaughnfan. I admit the first thought popped into my head when I read the news was: "This must means Lee features majorly in the finale." If it's only a scene or two for him, surely they could've moved filming dates around.

I'm also sort of happy they extended the production completion date. I hope this means we get a very "meaty" series finale.

Word is that the finale will likely be two parts, perhaps three. :)

Yay! *Dances*

I'm hoping for three, realistically I'll settle for two. :D

My heart goes out to australian fans... I know there were a few hardcore fans in the bunch that were so excited to see him. Frak, I was excited FOR you to meet him.

Much love!

I too, had the initial thought of, "At least that means he's IN the finale." Presumably, anyway. :D That's too bad he had to cancel, though.

Thanks asta77,

I'm not at all cheesed off with Jamie, the BSG production team or the promoters... These things happen. I love the series. Let's be honest, if it wasn't for BSG he wouldn't be doing any Cons, so the show has to come first! I'd rather see him feature prominently in the show than see him in July. He'll get here eventually...

Just an idea asta77, November in Melbourne we have the Armageddon Convention, it's huge! http://www.armageddonexpo.com/

Could we lobby his convention agent to arrange an appearance there if he's not busy elsewhere?

Cheers,

Tanya. :)

P.S. Thanks Bi for your kind words, you're a sweetie! :)

I know the vast majority of fans understand why these things happen. And, yes, if not for BSG it's possible many of us would not even be aware of Jamie and he wouldn't be asked to do all these conventions.

I shall definitely pass along your link. Hopefully, once the show finishes production and he has a more stable schedule he'll be able to find time to meet the fans overseas. :)

I just wanted to post the following quotes that have appeared on the Gen Con and The Hub Websites today!

From Gen Con Australia:

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
Battlestar Boys, Now A Wash!
29 June 2008
Much to our disappointment, Gen Con™ Australia and The Hub Productions must announce that James Callis and Jamie Bamber will not be appearing at Gen Con™ Australia as advertised.

Filming of the hit series Battlestar Galactica was due to conclude on the 28th of June 2008, however due to factors beyond our control filming has been pushed back to the 10th of July 2008.

On the plus side, Gen Con™ Australia and Hub Productions have been working furiously to find replacements for the show. And replacements we have found in the appearance of two awesome guests namely Paul "Carson Beckett" McGillion from Stargate Atlantis and Alan "Wash" Tudyk from Serenity/Firefly.

From the HUB site:

The HUB Productions presents...
